I used to jump Flint in an English hackmore but after too long he got used to it and he then he kind of reverted back to how he used to be, rushing, pulling into fences at sill speeds. I was always mortified of how much i was having to hang on his mouth...and nose and poll pressure did work. How well do the combintations work ie, bit and nosepiece. would this be an option. have tried EVERY bit under the sun, and for flat work he goes in a snaffle, anythoing that resemble a fence, hedge, log etc is a nightmare. what do you think?

I used to use the myler combination bits on my loopy grey horse and it was about the only thing that he accepted and gave me control

I used to ride a very hot Grade A who was jumped in one, if you have a goods they can be very effective (his came form equiport, wasn't a myler though)

ive been looking on equiprt, and he loves copper bits, but the mouth piece looks huge. I brought the continental last year for him but that was too big!

I can't see the one we had on Equiports site, we bought from their stand at a show. The nose cheeks are the same but the mouthpiece is a standard single jointed stainless steel job.

You could consider the Mikmar too - I think amage rode in one on her strong SJ mare for awhile?

what about trying a hackamore and your regular bit, with two reins? I tried that combo on mine last year. The combi bits are awfully expensive and very very harsh, there is no room for error as each part has a knock on effect to the other . With the two bits seperatly you can ride each more efficently.

Ps i know what its like!I have a personal bit bank!

I bought my Hackamore/American gag combination from OBERON EQUESTRIAN, they are also listed on Ebay. Paid £62 and it came direct from Abbey bits so not a rubbish imitation
