I've been angsting over how best to look after my two ponies - new one arrives tomorrow. I currently have a NF pony (Young Pony), 7, extremely good doer, so far no issues, can be 'benignly neglected' ie turned out, rugged and left basically. New pony (Old Pony) is 21, has had laminitis in the past (although not for 10 years), currently stabled and only turned out for part of the day. We only have a field shelter which the owners seem fine with. Obviously both ponies are going to be different in terms of stable management. So this is what I have come up with:

Section off part of field shelter with two wooden bars and put deep bedding in there. Keep Old Pony in there at night with a rug on. Young Pony can still get in the other half if he needs to. Field shelter is just about big enough to do this as Old Pony is only 11.2.
Section off part of the field for strip grazing and put Old Pony in there in the morning with extra rug, leave him there until about 4 then put him back in makeshift stable. Leave overnight. Young Pony has freedom to hooley about the paddock.
Feed Old Pony Horse hage and hay in stable. Young Pony gets grass and the odd Happy Hoof feed.

Please feel free to criticise this plan :D
