who has done what to my horse? and, come to think of it, who put what in my drink at the meet?

I actually hunted in a snaffle today, and still have normal length arms, and didn't career into anybody, and lived to tell the tale!! :) He's suddenly calmed down... still enthusiastic, but he's just gone all sort of sensible.... mostly. So very civilised!

we jumped our first hedge together today too - ok, so we jumped the height of a hedge, but in a gap/scrubby bit - but I'm classing it as having jumped a hedge :D:D

And I only chickened out of one hedge/fence (to be fair though, only 2 people got over first time, and when i got closer I realised it was at least 17hh tall!!).

I did, however, manage to loose the field twice today! First time a bunch of us second guessed the hounds and got it wrong. I, and another lady, ended up finding one of the whips, and tagging on with him until we found the field again. Then the second time, I was part of a handful of people who stopped to help someone get back on their horse, and the field just managed to vaporise! Caught up with them about 10 minutes later just down the road, but don't know which way they went to get there!

also, I overheard the best thing today... one of our young mounted field was offered the chance to go up with the huntsman and whips, or to enjoy plenty of jumping with the field. He grinned from ear to ear, and replied "Sir, I can jump hedges any day, I'd like to ride with the hounds please!"

How lovely! :D

I'm hoping that I will eventually be able to hunt in a snaffle, as long as we can stay up at the front it would be fine!

I jumped my first proper hedge on Saturday, walked the dog along where we'd hunted to find it and was horrified at the height and width of it! I'm 6ft and it was solid up to my shoulders and scrubby above that!!

I've always said that if I can get 10 days under Ron's belt by Christmas then we'll be able to hunt in a snaffle, but for any number of reasons this is only the 2nd or 3rd year we've actually managed it. today was his 13th day of the season, and he's been in the snaffle for 3 so far.

it's not that he's hard mouthed, it is purely over-enthusiasm at the start of the season that means we need the double!
