Comfort Bridles - cheaper range

Hi,

I currently have my girl in a mix match of old bridles that have been put together to get us by until I get a new one. More so, after being terribly jealous of my sister's Kate Negus comfort bridle I am set on getting one for my girl. However, the like of a Kate Negus is a little bit out of my price range at moment so I am a bit reluctant to spend £££ on a nice comfort bridle if I can get a decent one at a cheaper price. Does anyone know of some nice, but not too expensive, makes of bridle that do a comfort version? I do realise however that this may be asking the impossible, and I may have to splash the cash and invest in a more expensive one like a Kate Negus or Sabre or something along those lines!

I have an expensive Dy'on one for schooling and outings but wanted a cheaper one for hacking, especially considering the foul weather we've been having lately. I did a bit of research as I much prefer the comfort bridles where the headpiece is all in one with the straps coming off it, rather than the type with a padded poll and the noseband strap running along the top, if that makes sense. I did a bit of research and found the Shires Avingnon, and for the price it is excellent. It is like a copy of the Dy'on, with the contrast stitching and the all-in-one headpiece that is cut away from the ears. It is quite fine so probably wouldn't suit a cobby type with a large head, but it looks lovely on my WB. The leather is quite nice too, I'm really pleased with it.

there are a few on ebay at the mo that also have crank nosebands. Heritage are around £50 and there are KF and Barclay around £35 -
 
kandm, what are you looking for (size/colour etc) - I have a Sabre Cordoba with comfort headpiece in F/S Black with brass fittings/crank noseband that I have recently started to consider selling... (I've lost the reins) - wouldn't want silly money for it. Let me know if you are interested, can email you pics if you want.
 
I have 3 John Barclay & Sons comfort bridles. They are about £40, all have mine have lasted amazingly well, are good quality and fit well.

My brown one was a bit stiff when I first got it, but both my black ones were beautifully soft right from the word go, and my girl has had her snaffle bridle atleast 5 years, if not more, and it still looks good as new :)
 
The evision ones are quite nice - modelled on the Jeffries IR bridle (so will come up big). I think they are around £60 ish on ebay?

I have one of these and its a very nice bridle for the price.
 
I have a black Horze, complete with cutaway headpiece. My boy, before he broke, who was so fussy about his ears, approved. And it cost £40.

Does anyone make a comfort-type bridle that doesn't have a crank noseband? I need a flash but really can't stand crank nosebands. I really wanted a Micklem as love their design but can't get one to fit pony's funny shaped head (short wide head with a really short muzzle). His short muzzle is the reason I don't have him in a drop, which I'd prefer to a flash. Even a drop that doesn't fall down (ie, a properly made one with the metal bits inside to keep the drop up so it doesn't fall onto the nostrils like cheap ones do) doesn't fit :(
 
I can second (or is that thrid?) the Shires range for surprisingly good leather and great design. Maybe not for 'best ' competition, but for every day and local stuff, it's great.
 
Evision Equine is just like the Jeffries. I have 2. One is fabulous quality the other less good. You can choose whatever noseband you like and mix and match on sizes. They are pretty helpful on sizing but I found they do come up HUGE!

I actually have one of these too :o I'm a bit of a hoarder, I'll admit. It's a really nice bridle, I use it for everyday wear and chuck it about and get it wet and it's held up really well. It's not quite as cushy as the FFS one, but was about half the price and is still very smart. I did manage to mess up the noseband a bit trying to hack off the flash loop, but that's my own fault ;)
 
See, my tb loves crank nosebands, because they're so padded! I'll admit I do them up very loosely though, so I can fit my hand in between nose and noseband, so they're not really serving as a crank. I'm pretty sure he'd let me know if he felt restrained, because he had a hissy fit the one time I put a flash on him :redface3:

With your pony could you try an icelandic noseband? A pony on our yard has one and it doesn't slip down, but then I'm not sure how different it is to a regular drop.
