If so what?

I have just bought an unbranded german "comfort bridle" with padded browband and crank padded noseband, with the slot so the noseband goes over the headpiece not under, and the poll part is shaped and padded.

Is an elevator different and if so - how?

What are the reasons for these bridles other than obviously alleviating pressure and adding comfort though padding?

Sounds basically the same- exactly the same design but elevator claim to be best the best quality (and 4 times the price!!).
They prevent as much pressure on the atlanto-occipital bone and atlas (ie poll) and so are more comfortable for the horse- especially if they throw their heads when poll pressure is applie.
Have fun with it

The elevator is the hoover of the bridle world.

Elevator is the brand, but comfort bridle is an alternative description. In good leather there is no difference, other than branding.

Thankies!!!

Well the ginger one seems to have taken straight to it, its a bit bulky but I imagine it will settle with use once its "worn in"

The crank can be harsh can't it? I'm not using flash strap at the moment and have the crank fastened as I would a cavesson, 3 fingers between noseband and horse - is that about right?

I'm really pleased with it, very nice leather and well made, looks bling as its havana with white padding, was cheap due to marks inside the padding - not that anyone will see them! Complete with rubber reins - for a total of £32 inc postage.

And for once (am amazed) a full size fits well! Usually I need a full for browband/headpiece size, but cheekpieces are on top holes as is noseband. This one, cheekpieces on 3rd hole, noseband about the same!

Will have to post a photo of her in her new finery!! Noseband is on the chunky side mind, but I likes it!

Cranks are only harsh if you do them up tight - the mechanical advantage means you get get them very tight and my nasty dressage instructor has their one done so tight you cannot fit a finger in!!

They are broad to distribute the pressure to prevent injuries from over tightening. You won't find a thin crank for this reason!

Popular as with a cranks you can stop the horse opening their mouth even in a double, without the use of a flash.
