I bought my NF mare nearly 5 years ago on a chance, she was lame at the time but was going to the meat man that day so I had to make a quick decision. Anyway, the vet came out to look at her and said that she looked like she had fractured her fetlock on some kind of wire and it had not received vet treatment so the bone had fused - she was lame because she was walking on her heels on her front feet, she also had quite a big scar which looked like a big scab going round the front of her fetlock.

We did several tests with bute and it was clear she was in no pain(esp after galloping round the field to evade capture!) but without an x-ray we wouldn't know for sure what had happened. As we would have to travel to the vet's premises to have the x-ray and it would take a fair few hours to load her as well as the costs involved I decided to keep her as an 'ornament' and breed from her when we found a better place to keep her.

Well that was 4 years ago and during the last few months she has been becoming less and less lame, some days you can't tell and the scar has reduced in size quite a lot.

Is it possible that after 5 years she has now started to become sound? The field she is in now is quite big and hilly which is great for keeping muscle on her. Has anyone else seen this kind of thing before or is it just wishful thinking on my part??
