Attention all of you that keep "leisure horses" within the boundary of our National Parks (Dartmoor, Exmoor etc). I attended a public meeting last night along with 400+ other concerned horse owners about the plans for the New Forest by the National Parks authot
rity. There has been a post about this before explaining the basic issues but here are the links:

Please take note as they indicate that if this plan is approved they will use the New Forest as an example and roll it out to other National Parks and Local Authorities. If they have their way we will have to apply for planning permmission to rug, feed and put hay out!! So if any one thinks they could be affected even though you are not in the area please have a look.
 
Crikey. I thought the whole character of the New Forest was maintained by having a strong horse culture, how bizarre and misguided......

Im about half a mile outside the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park, wasnt sure at the time whether to be pleased or upset, now I know Im pleased!!!

Will feedback to the NF parks people that this is ridiculous.
 
Thanks. I don't think it really hit me until lastnights meeting that if push comes to shove we will have to move our horses as they are on land that would need a change of use and they will not grant that. Sadly that is how the vast majority of leisure horses are kept so many have reason to be worried.
 
I was just chatting to someone here at work about it because we deal with planning, and really you should have to get planning permission for equestrian use anyway. It just looks like the New Forest are clamping down on it unfortunately.
