How man of you have horses that come to call? I affectionately call me old lad 'donks' and can holler this up as i'm walking up the lane knowing he'll be at the gate when i get there. My mare is not quite as good as this she is affectionately called 'Flops' which i holler as i approach the field, doesn't get her to the gate but she will meet me half way :D

Me! I love it, can't imagine actually having to fetch a horse! As soon as he hears me he walks to where he can see me, then follows me to the gate. And when I drive past and shout goodbye he calls to me. I love him so much! Even the donks I work with start walking across the field when they hear me call so we meet somewhere in the middle.

My girl will 'come to call' if she wants to come in, if not, then I have to go to her. At least she doesn't run away.

When I used to work at a riding school, all the horses used to come to call. Used to open their stable doors then open the gate and shout a massive "cooooooooommmmee oooonnnn" and in a nice orderly fashion they'd walk in to their own stables.

My sisters horse wouldn't come to call at all, in fact he would wait till you got near and then nonchalantly walk off pretending he hadn't even seen you and all his friends were in on it!

Captain comes to call, occasionally at top speed and skids to a halt just in front of you!

Fany will do you the honour of looking up and if she fancies coming in then she'll slowly make her way to you, if not she sort of gives you a nod and goes on eating.

my little mare will come to call in winter when she wnts to come in but oh forget it in summer but never runs off.. The big lad just stands ears forward looking at you lol never runs off but loves you walking to him . in winter little lass can hear my voice and screeches to me saying im here im herer lol

Only if its cold and dark. If I want to fetch him in the middle of the day I have to walk up the field to him but TBH its a novelty to have a horse that stands there and lets me catch him after four years of a horse that you had to chase.

Mine come to a whistle, only problem is if its cold I have to take my gloves off to whistle!! The pair of them come at varying speeds from plod to flat out and sliding stop!

In the winter everyone comes galloping - unless they are already waiting at the gate then they just yell. In the summer some come, some don't, some sometimes walk away...

Well in the last 3 months mine has gone from not being caught, to be ok to catch, and then the past four nights both of mine have come to call!!! It's a bit of a shock as I'm used to them being the far corner of the field and having to trek to get them.

Brooke comes to call, varying speeds, mostly a just wanders over. Wee Minty always came flat out and skid to a stop right in front of me.
Both of them also come to the whistle.
I would hate to have to trudge up the field. I think i would feel a bit hurt lol

My lot usually do. I tend to just hollar 'Horses!' and they meander up, usually with GM in the lead in case she gets left out (she never does lol).

Sometimes the Dizz will hang back (sometimes she's first :D), so then I call 'Cow-baaag!' and she comes :D

Mine never comes to call.

He'll look up and feign interest for about 10 seconds and then go back to munching.

He'll do the last 10 steps or so to meet me though. Still doesn't make it any less of a pain to schlep up the hill to get him!

Depends. If it's a bit chilly and damp, I don't need to call, she sees me and is at the gate by the time I get there. If it's horizontal rain and she's in the vicinity of the gate whilst being able to get to the gate travelling sideways - she's ready for me. Otherwise - no chance. If it's a normal day, she'll tip me a wink but won't come unless the lead mare makes a move in the direction of the gate. If she's out alone, she comes in all by herself 5 minutes after Ive put her out, I don't need to call. Or look. Or even think. Boing and she's over the gate.

Mine have recently changed fields and can now see/hear me when I turn up at the yard in the evening. I have to whisper if in sight or the gate banging begins! If they are out of sight in a bigger field, one loud holler gets them cantering to the gate, bless 'em!!

Both of mine do, although with varying speeds depending on the weather or the time of year. Summer or when it's nice they just plod towards me but if it's raining or winter they gallop up to me. My gelding comes silently but my mare neighs the whole way towards me!

Nope.... she looks up when I call her though to acknowledge I am there then proceeds to stuff as much grass as she can fit in her mouth before I get to her!
Yeah this is what mine does too!

The old mare is always stood at the gate waiting from about 3'o'clock onwards and as soon as I open the gate instead of going out and waiting at the next gate she turns around and walks with me to find my gelding (or if she's ready to go in she just whinney's and he's there in two seconds flat, going from gallop to halt right in front of me) Which I think is really quite sweet (until he tries to kiss her and she responds by trying to kick him in the head!) :D

I'm lucky to catch my little bugger, never mind him coming to call! To be fair though, if his fieldmate has already been brought in he does whinny at me and mooch his way to the gate :)

All of ours come to call, well not sure about the new girl, but the others do, to the extent that we sometimes have to bring the lot in to sort out the one we want! :D Interestingly the pony, who belongs to a friend, will come on her own when the friend and her children come to fetch her and the others keep out of the way.

Mine looks up, mocks me and says im actually going to walk the other way because you look like you need the exercise, then I'll trot and wait by the gate and you will have to walk all the way back aswell!

Haha this!

At the moment though he waits in the field shelter, looks like he might run off, sees the peeing down rain/wind and you can see his face go 'oh, alright then i give in'. In summer he finds it hilarious to run around the field doing sliding stops in the rain though.

Yes, all come to call, any time of day or night, my liveries as well as my own. I don't fetch horses! A friend whose horses I rode used to say "There you go again - calling them like b****y chickens (Cooop coop, come on)" but if it works, do I care? Then ALWAYS a mint or a carrot, and a little spoiling, even for the horses I don't need.
