Aww, bless him, poor lad!

Our school is also of the 'deep & slippery' variety & my old pony can struggle in it sometimes, though he is the opposite build, being a rather fine sec B! lol

Your lad is 15, he doesn't really enjoy schooling & the problem doesn't occur out hacking, so would it be possible to just stick to the latter?
You can always do small stints of 'schooling' out hacking remember, it doesn't have to be done in a school, or maybe there is a field you could use?

Because the problem is only in the school, I probably wouldn't panic too much about there being anything terribly 'wrong'. Is he fairly unfit at the moment, as that sort of surface can be very hard work? (I know, I get puffed ploughing across ours on foot!)
