If the stables are registered as being used for commercial purposes they will. Based on various rateable values for the facilities, irrespective of whether eg the stables are filled or not. Some places which are farms get away with not paying the rates. They actual amount varies depending on the local authority commercial rateable value p in the £ number and the facilities. there is lots of useful info on the net incl the valuation agency...also def worth appealing as sometimes assessments are quite random and reductions do happen just dont hold breath for the cheque takes ages..

we have to pay rates (livery yard) but got a letter last week saying we have paid too much and are owed refund over £800, cheque arrived thru my door this morning!

Even private ones do get charged if they are not within your house and grounds.
