Friend is selling a horse for me. He has prepared it for photos, dealt with prospective buyers, demoed the horse and will be there for vetting.

What is a fair commission? I need to pitch it at a rate that rewards him for all the time and effort but not so much that he turns it down. Aargh

Where is the horse stabled? Theirs or yours?

Generally 10% is standard for agent type sales which would also possibly be comparable with someone handling the sale on your behalf.

If sales livery then it often depends on what the base livery is.
If low base rate then you might expect 15-20% commission, if higher base rate then 10%

Neither. We both have horses at the same yard. Plan had been for him to give a hand when I wasn't able to be there, but due to various things, he has been doing it all. I know his first reaction will to be say he doesn't want anything but I don't think that is fair.

Well I suppose it depends on horses value to some extent and also how much time/experience he is putting in. Maybe just offer a set fee once horse sold?

I'd be thinking 10% still with maybe a cap of £500?

My friend is selling my horse for me, I am still paying for her upkeep, I am reimbursing some competition fees (no lessons) and she is getting 10% of the proceeds

I'd ask your friend what they thought was fair

I suspect he'll say nothing too - if he does, could you buy him a really special present instead? Something he thinks is too expensive to buy for himself? e.g I'd love a hot horse shower but won't buy it for myself as £180 seems far too much for me!
