I had a rather unrelaxing hack yesterday. Pinto was really up on his toes, and as soon as his feet hit the grass tracks he wanted to be off. So I insisted we stay in walk. He never does anything daft, and isn't spooky, but he is a completely different horse to ride outside than in the school.
Anyway, after only 40 minutes, I knew it wasn't going to get any better, so I turned for home, up one of the paved roads (the roads are farm tracks, only the with of one vehicle wide)
I had just passed the dog kennels when I heard a car behind us, so I popped us on the verge (which is a foot wide before you hit a hedge), and continued walking. The car didn't slow down at all, and couldn't even wait 2 minutes until Pinto and I could pull into a wider section of the verge, just 20m in front.
The car was pulling an empty trailer which was bouncing all over the place.
All I can say is, thank goodness Pinto is just about bomb proof, and that very little bothers him, be it cars giving us no breathing space, or dog walkers who carefully hide behind trees to "not startle the horse"
Hopefully I'll have a calmer pony tomorrow, but I'm not going to bet on it!
