i was wondering what the common unladen weight of a 3.5t lorry is as the plate on my new lorry gives its unladen weight as 1850kg.

So that means i have a whole 1650kg to play with.

So i should be able to get two small horses and tack on board - very pleased :D

Hi The plate wont give you the unladen weight the only way to get this accuratly is to take it to a weigh bridge and the plate usually relates to axle weights and will have been put in the truck before it was converted to a horsebox, and flooring ramps and partions weigh much more than an empty box. Most 3.5 tonnes will only carry about 1000-12oo kgs but please check as the fines are high for over weight and it will also invalidate your insurance.

it gives the chassis weights on there too aswell as an unladen weight.

I am planning some work on the box anyway and am taking it to the local weigh bridge once the work is done, However it is a good old fashioned type box so i do expect it to come up quite light in comparison to the newer boxes.

Yes - the Chassis before anything else was built onto it - i.e coachbuilt box, spare wheel, etc etc

no, you misunderstand me. Not sure i can get my point across without actually having the plate in my hand and typing in everything it says on there.

I was just pleased to have a decent amount of weight to play with but never mind - i'll keep it to myself next time :(

Glad you have a good a payload spare :) My box only has a tonne payload so enough for one horse, person and equipment etc but not enough for two sadly :( Mine is quite an old one though so the fittings are all quite heavy, I think the manufacturers generally make them a lot lighter now so there is more payload, as with your box.
