Just a bit of research. We have three in Lincoln. What are allowed to graze yours? What times of the year? Who owns/runs them? How well are they maintained? What user groups use them? Any info at all please
Dunno about it being a common but the village in Yorkshire where my grandparents lived had grazing rights on the village green and hrses, cows and occasionally sheep were grazed on it. The cricket green was fenced off
Usually owned by the parish, so need to contact the local parish council clerk.
Have a look at this site for more info from Defra Commons - what are they?
and this site gives a bit of history on commons Commons - history
In our village you have to live near/on the common to have grazing rights - it's not a free for all for anyone to put animals on or to cut hay from. The public has access to walk etc.
HTH
We live on one and have commoners rights, which allows us to graze a certain amount of stock per year on it. I dont graze my horses on it but others do, we currently have about 8 ponies running as a herd out there. Ours is run by the Commoners Association and I think owned ultimately by someone else, a private person not the 'crown' anyway as I had thought.

We lost our commoners rights in 1915 but retain grazeing rights which the council are not happy about. The local council are supposed to maintain them. Cows used to be grazed but it is only horses now which are getting less and less. Just interested in how others are run and laws etc.
theres one nearish to me. I know of a couple of people who keep their ponies and youngstock on it and another person who keeps her riding horse out there, and its rugged in winter.
We're in Wales though, so I'm not sure if its the same. I was certainly surprised to find out that it wasnt either 'council' run or owned by them but managed by local people who all have commoners rights.
