Bit of a weird one!

A livery at my yard (lovely lady!) has a crystal on a string which she uses to speak to her horse, she'll ask a question with a yes/no answer and the crystal will swing one way or the other depending on the answer. I was a total sceptic but then she 'spoke' to my boy and asked him 2 questions in particular A) did he like his new bridle (previously my TB's with a drop noseband instead of a cavesson) and B) would he let me clips his legs (usually has to be twitched to do his front legs). He answered no to question A and yes to question B.

Initially I treated it as a bit of a joke BUT the next day I noticed that the drop had been rubbing him slightly, and then when I hogged him he stood like a rock to have his front legs done - with no twitch!

So now I'm not so sure? What are your thoughts?

complete rubbish i'd say.. she has a 50% chance of getting each one right, so its good odds to get two in a row, nothing else.

horses and human communication wouldn't work along those lines - horses have no idea of how a conditional tense like 'would' works. she would get the same results flipping a coin in front of him..

I was paraphrasing ;)

He hasn't had to be twitched since she spoke to him though, and have done him a few times since then! I'm still sceptical but found it interesting :)

Try this pendulum test - a paper clip on a piece of thread will do.

Get some thread and paperclip to create your 'pendulum', sit down and hold the thread so the clip dangles over a fixed point and with the arm holding the pendulm rest that elbow on the table or surface. Without moving yourself, arm, hand or even twitching any fingers concentrate on the paperclip and think:

Move back and forth
then circle left
then circle right
etc...

Give it a little time

You are not consciously moving the pendulum but your muscles are reacting to your thoughts/expectations so this is akin to the nail test for pregnant folks. You get the answer the person doing the test is expecting whether they realise it or not.
