Hi Everyone,

This is a little bit of an update from my post about billys poor hoof pastern axis, and a comp result.

Firstly thanks to everyone that gave opinions and help on my thread before about his hoof problems. (in Hoof and vet section) I got my vet out on Friday to check him over after a few people noted it could be more serious than just a long hoof. Vet did flexion tests and many trot ups and he passed with flying colours! :) (Very happy me!) He agreed that his hind feet are in bad condition, and that they werent like that when he vetted him 18months ago. Told me to get him on a biotin supplement, and if im still unhappy in 6months then he can refer him to a specialist for xrays, but he is happy that its not a conformation issue, and that its probably a combo of poor management and the abscess that has caused the problem.

Next is new farrier came out, and we decided to keep him shod for now to see if we can get him looking better that way before thinking of going barefoot. (i have listened to many suggestions about going barefoot, and havent ruled it out) He looked much better after shoeing, so iv decided to give the farrier a chance to sort the problem out his way before i try anything else.

So after the all clear from vet i went jumping on sunday! We went to Greenlands EC which always has 'spooky' fences, and plenty for him to look at! He is a wimp so as soon as i sore a 'Dr Who' themed fence, complete with dalek fillers, i thought the worst and started imagining elimination! (I know i shouldnt think bad thoughts):). Anyway...We went in and he was a star! Double clear in the 85cm and a nice 5thplace. Then 95cm he jumped great again, two down (which isnt like him at all) but felt good, so couldnt fault him.

I had to buy my 'Dr Who' picture just to prove to myself he can jump spooky fences! So all in all, great weekend had!

(sorry in advance for any spelling mistakes.)

Good outcome!

Personally I would look at a full hoof supplement rather than just biotin, pro earth one on ebay is the one I have had best results with.

Onwards and upwards!

thanks both,

The fences there are always mad! Its a good jump isnt it? They have a castle, lochness moster...loads of others! Poor horse doesnt know what to spook at first half the time.

Wow well done!! Great photo :)

My Welsh D would fill his pants at the look of that jump, I've only just got his head round Polyblocks!
Thank you!

my welsh would too! ha ha Its a shame, because when they do jump, they are normally amazing!

well the week before i got eliminated at a totally boring average upright with no scary wings or fillers, so i really was surprised he jumped so well. Sometimes i think he is a mare!:D

I agree, I took him to do some cross country yesterday and he jumped some weird looking bright blue barrels first time, as well as a jump that had a flower bed in it, however when I pointed him at an average log - he ran backwards

Glad you and your boy had a good time and yes he does sound like a mare! Are you sure he's not a Welshie in disguise?!
