the stage fright not literal type.
its like she goes all shy!!!!
guess maybe i need to be more strict at home with her.....

looked like it was going to be disaster when i realised half my comp stuff wasnt to hand and the only clean breeches i had were the ones that randomly let the flies down  which was a slight concern for all!
had a bit of a boot dance when they went on and she realised the ramp was down for a party but she loaded well and travelled ok in the new box once we got going (shes used to a 3.5t, so a 7.5t herringbone was causing her alot of concern and she was shaking like a leaf....

warm up was ok but in the test 1 she was hardly moving! she was gawping at a few of the things around the arena but kept a lid on the spooks....but also a lid on any impulsion.
FWLR was a cheap snooze nose to floor!
stayed on and walked her for 20mins which she stretched down the entire time for. then with 10mins to go we did a foward as possible work whilst staying in control.
2nd test was better tho she took the increased impulsion a bit far on occasion- counter canter nearly became jump the boards!

first test prob 60 ish and second one maybe a few % higher, not got my sheets yet though

so i was pleased anyway as she behaved well.
next comp will be in front of leg!!! got lots of homework from the outing!

Shes hardly been out this year.
So i only really wanted for her to load and travel well in the new box and behave

she did. Ive not idea what marks i got as i left early but we did two novice tests
in the first test she dropped me completely so it was a huge effort to get around lol.
so i stayed on walked her for 20mins and then did 10 mins of very forward work before test two which was a 60m one
she was much better in this and stayed more forward- a bit too forward in the counter canter lol

it was roasting hot, so i felt a bit bad as i havent got her clipped yet!

i think the 1st test will be around 60ish and maybe 62 for the second test as we had a few random moments when she didnt want to go down a gear lol

got a few pics too

My 5 year old is exactly the same! He just completely drops me in the ring and goes so slowly and pays little attnetion to me. He gets better and better with each outing though so maybe just do lots of outings and she should improve :) Also, with mine, I do medium trot around the ring before the judge rings the bell which seems to wake him up a bit.

She looks great in the pics though :)

Well done, she's looking great :) At least she's sensible about it all which is a bonus. A lot of young horses tend to drop behind the aids with stage fright when they enter the ring but I'm sure she'll grow out of it. I would make sure that at home you are really disciplined and that when you put your leg on, she knows you mean it. And if she doesn't know, she soon finds out!

Before the bell goes get her really going forwards, I used to find checking my halt-trot and walk-trot transitions on my 5 year old were useful and if he was backing off then legs on strongly/flick with whip, if not a sufficient reaction then immediately into medium trot then try again. The main thing is not to accept it. But hey it was a hot day so she's got an excuse ;)

Thanks peeps, glad its not just mine...admit to being very spoilt with her mum who is mega mega forward...we had rather the opposite problem of not halting LOL
Must be more strict at home.
Today we did some good canters in the friendly neighbours fifteen acre field....she was pretty forward then hehe
