As the pony that my lad shares a field with is heading out on loan, looking at getting him a companion or moving to a livery yard.
How easy is it to find a good doer that wouldn't mind being left alone in the field with good manners for bringing for shoeing and a groom. With companion horses who normally pays expenses? i.e. shoeing, jabs, poss feed, new rugs, vets bills
Also is there a normal loan agreement signed?
Thanks :)

I have a pony who is looking to be rehomed as a companion. He was abandoned with me, and after finally contacting the owner we've agreed that this is what would suit him best. PM me if you'd be interested.

I went to World Horse Welfare recently with exactly that list of requirements. They loaned me a super, well mannered, and beautifully trained native type. She stands for the farrier, to be groomed and stands in her box while I hack my mare. What we ever did without her I've no idea. Yes there is a loan agreement (this is also a good idea in any loan). If you loan 'privately' as it were its up to between you both who pays what regular running costs eg worming and feet are more often the loanee's responsibility.
