I am considering the idea of getting a couple of non-ridden companions alongside my two ridden horses so I can take one of them away but at the same time if away with the two horses, the companion is not left home alone.

I have been having an internet search on a few rescue centres etc... so not sure it things not geting updated just now with the current climate with coronavirus.

It is a word of mouth thing? Would it be better to have a look in a few months when going in to winter?

It depends what you want. If you want a couple of Shetlands you can pick up young colts at the autumn sales for £30. Lerwick is the last Friday of September or first one of October depending on when it falls. Aberdeen in the Monday after Lerwick. You can bid online for both and there's usually people from all over Scotland that will bring ponies back down to a mutual collection point.

I’m in Roxburghshire and have a pair of companion ponies available for loan. Please pm me if you’re interested.

I would ring your local rescues- the reputable ones will have the ponies assessed, health checks up to date and you know to some extent what you are getting, and if you can no longer keep them you have somewhere to return to and you're helping out the rescues.

The rescue I volunteer with are just now starting to get some ponies out to new homes. We do have more than are advertised online so definitely worth ringing and asking rather than relying on the website.

I am already in contact with a charity about rehoming a pair of ponies so maybe sorted if things work out. Many thanks
