I have an eighteen month old Trakenhar X TB who was weaned at a year old after being gelded and had only ever been turned out in a split shared field with my other event mares. His companion is my old connemara 14 yr old gelding, he seems very content and happy and is a well mannered little guy although I do sometimes wonder whether I should turn him away at 2 with some youngsters his own age for the summer but Im worried that he'll pick up bad habits or hurt himself. He's my first foal and I wonder whether Im being a bit overprotective! Any thoughts?

So long as there is always an older horse in the field with them, he should be fine. I'd never run a herd of solely youngsters; I always have nannies in with my young horses.

Too right....otherwise you'd have to do all the hard work of teaching them manners yourself!
