point 2
hit air
any other make?

Done many times beofre but what are the pros and cons of each?

Ive heard that you can get a body protector and air jactet set.
Apparently hey fit together better than a standard body protector and separate air vest.
Is this true?

Yes, they're on the Point " web site, last time I looked they were about £600 for the combo.

Unless the combo comes with the ability to replace the foam then it is a very very expensive bit of kit with a limited lifespan - if you fall off then you need to replace the foam (like with a hat) and if you don't, after 5 years you need to replace the BP anyway due to deterioration of the foam. The only BP this does not hold true for is the Kan, which uses a different kind of foam. I wouldn't touch the combo one until they have started selling the foam inserts separately for a sensible price (i.e. far less than a standard BP).

As for which air jacket - I'd personally go for the hit air - cheaper, less bulk and just as effective (P2 measure time to inflate from the moment it starts inflating, HitAir from time to fully inflated so there is little to choose between them). Hit air is the more tried and tested product too as they have a huge chunk of the motorcycle market and have been around a lot longer than P2.

Academic for me in that I ride in an exo so have no use for an air jacket, but when BE eventually ban my exo (as I have no doubt they will), I'll be going for a Kan with hit air from the research I've done.

There are a lot of threads on Competition Riders about them - try doing a search.

There are quite a few posts from people who have them, so plenty of useful information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, will take another look.
I did try searching but nothing came up, though i thought this was a hottly talked about subject!

I would speak to Kan about this, as I seem to recall that they don't recommend using any air jacket with their BP.

Point 2 all the way for me. Been out there for a long time. I thought 'hit air' only came out this year for equestrians???

Never had a problem with mine and has saved me from a lot of injuries!

The words 'expensive' do not even enter into the considerations when you think how many injuries they prevent! When I fall now from big pony 17hh it does not hurt! Now that's progress!

Before point two I had 3 days where I could not move and then upto 6 weeks recovery time. Now its how quick I can change the co2 cannister and back on.

Wish these had been invented years ago!!!

This is completely wrong. Kan do not say you cannot use an air jacket with their BP, but for reasons unknown, P2 say don't use an air jacket with a Kan. Hit Air make no such claims either way. BETA have put out a statement saying they cannot see why you could not use an air jacket with a Kan: http://www.kanteq.com/fullstory.php?sid=43

The technology has been around for years and years, just in the motorcycling world not in the equestrian world. Hit Air is the more established brand - it launched the first air jacket technology for motorcyclists in 1998....point two started in 2008!! Both brands were developed from motorcycle technology, the principle is identical and my personal research suggests you sacrifice nothing by buying the cheaper brand. I assume you also ride in a £500 KEP hat rather than a £120 HS1 on the basis that more expensive is better/safer?! (it's not - KEP is not snell tested and HS1s are) ;)
