Does anyone have an more ideas how to get a white tail back to white again or has she got a permanently stained tail? I've tried to wash it with yellow fairy liquid, white vinegar, purple shampoo, a Daz equivalent (not at the same time) but it's still got terrible stains at the bottom. I keep it in a plait at all times to try and reduce it getting into the 'stream'... Does anyone else have any further ideas or has it got a permanent stain now?

How exactly do you use tomato ketchup? I've heard this before but what do you do with it? any idea why it's supposed to work? I'm guessing it's similar to vinegar?

we damp the tail and then rub it in and leave it for a while - I think it is the fruit acids in it? It is also good for removing green chlorine tints from blonde hair and excellent for minging dogs that have rolled in fox poo!

The only real way to stop it from happening is to put it in a tail bag, until the stain grows out, ive tried lots of things and it will lighten , but to stop it staining in the first place the bag seems to be the only way :(

LOL...well I guess that's the next thing to try. I really don't want to cut off any of her tail and need to learn to sort it going forward so...I'll try this next :)
TBH I think shes bored of me washing her tail. I have looked at those tail bags but she lives out and I don't really want to use one especially as shes still quite young. Maybe when she is fully white and I have pulled all my own hair out i'll get one ;)

Ohhh thank you :)

I like the idea as well of using a brush on the dock. I always use a brush on the body and scrub but never thought of doing it on the tail as well.

Looks like i'm off out to get some Ketchup.

Have you tried touch of silver shampoo? It's for the older generations grey hair ;)

Works a treat on my grey girls tail (used as a second wash)

Yes currently have that and a loreal one which I use along with the conditioner. The other day I soaked in Daz then washed with this shampoo then washed off in daz water and followed with a conditioner and show spray....still stained. looks better but it's still visibly yellow in comparison to the middle of her tail. The top of her tail is still quite grey .

A waterproof tail bag is the only way along with washing and conditioning the ends several times a week.

We have a kid at Pony Club who's pony's tail is pure white - the only time its out of the tail bag is when it's ridden. Grandma uses Daz and human conditioner on it.

It will take time to get the yellowing out but you will if you keep the tail totally protected from getting sprayed with urine or getting in the mud.
