Just found out pergolide is now on the banned list for BD, BE and BRC have now followed suit. This precluded lots of older horses and ponies from competing at a decent level once they are prescribed pergolide to control cushings. As it isnt a performance enhancing drug this seems very unfair and especially with the recent free blood tests campaign showing up many more cases, will affect more and more older competition horses.
Currently the PC ( and maybe BS I'm not sure ) are the only ones seeing sense ( would be truly disastrous if they decided to ban it - all those fabulous older schoolmasters doing their job helped by pergolide would suddenly be out of a job !).
Has anyone competed a horse on pergolide - I dont want to just keep quiet and hope we're not tested, but would welcome any info on withdrawal times - if for instance meds were stopped for a few days prior to competition woud the test then be clear. The Half life looks quite short 5-8 hours or so, so has anyone looked into doing this ?
Would really welcome any replies as we have a pony who is fab on his pergolide at a low dose, who we would love to do BD with, but currently cant. Thanks for your help !
