Hello đź‘‹, I was hoping someone could give me some tips and clarity on competing with your horse (in-hand) at the royal welsh show.
I have never done this before and my main question is in regard to the arrival time after reading the rules and regulations (in attached file).
So I am assuming from these (no. 35,36) that you can only arrive on the Saturday @12 even if you were competing the following Thurs?
And second question, I also assume they post or inform you of your departure time when entering the show/ or at the show?
Just trying to plan the show and I suppose I didn’t anticipate having to have my horse there from the Saturday! Also any tips for competing highly appreciated.
Kind regards

You can't arrive before 12 on Saturday. You'll find people que yo get on to livestock/horse hill as they want to get the same parking spot every year.
Parking is a premium if you arrive from Monday onwards. Although we found a nice spot arriving on Monday afternoon, just not on the level I was hoping.

You can book stables. They become available from 7pm( I think) The day you book. If your lucky and your stable is vacant they may let you in your stable early.

When you book your stabling and enter it will all be explained. And the admin staff are really helpful.

You are provided with 1 bale of straw per stable but are given details of the onsite supplier. They also put out extra straw at a set time every day but its gone in seconds so don't rely on it.

Have your passport handy on arrival as all horses were being scanned for chips and vaccinations checked before you could unload or park up last year.

Any other questions please feel free to ask.

Hope you have so much fun!!

Thanks very much for your advice!
I hope so too! After watching since a child it feel’s surreal to think I will be competing this time! However, my worst fear at the moment is falling over in front of that grandstand 🫣. Hope you have a good show and good luck should you be returning this year!
Kind regards

I know what you mean. Watched my parents as a child in the main ring. I turned a round number last year and decided I needed to do some bucket list stuff. I'm not sure I'll get back this year. My mum's going to watch as a treat for another significant number.
It's a little overwhelming going in through the gates as everyone legs it in on cob day but god is it amazing! My legs were trembling by the time it all calmed down. I don't think I'd have held Ben if he hadn't coped so well with the atmosphere.

What are you taking?

Love this show.. have been for many years and competed.

You can stable the night before, great show atmosphere.

If you are showing stallion you can request to be in the stallion block:)

I am planning on taking my section b stallion this year.
