I’m going to university next year but I hope to keep competing my horse while I’m there. I know of a livery yard 2 mins from the university that will keep my horse in return for work at the weekends. Does this sound like a possibility or has anyone done anything similar?

A lot depends on your course and what time you will have available. In the end my son left his horses at home and drove/flew home during the eventing season, about 350 miles, and I kept them fit day to day. He did contemplate taking one with him but in the end we decided he could enjoy being a student and study better without one to look after. As we have a yard at home it worked out much cheaper doing this than paying livery and my son worked three mornings a week riding out racehorses which kept his fitness up and helped pay for his journeys home.
