Competing riggy horses

I have a 12yo gelding who was gelded at 10, so he does have some riggy tendencies.

I was wondering at shows & competitions ect. If you're allowed to put a white ribbon in his tail even though he isn't actually a stallion or if there's another colour/way to let people know?
