Can some explain to me how this would work - say someone gave their horse to a professional to ride/compete would the 'owner' pay for everything still?

By everything i mean livery, vets, farrier, physio etc? Or does the professional pay part of it?

Thats what i had thought

in my experenice owner pay everything (livery, vet, farrier etc... plus your horse entry fees and affiliation-BUT NOT THEIRS) and also you'll pay for rider to ride at event aswell (ie their hourly rate and may be diesel if they transport)

Yes

Although I spose it also depends on individual circumstances, some could come to other agreements where they pay more/less

In most cases the owner pays for everything.

However I have known some cases of really talented horses that the pro wants to keep the ride on and in those cases the pro has lowered their livery fee's to keep the horse and essentially subsidised the horse themselves.

We pay for everything for ours with a professional - so livery, entry fees, vets, shoeing, transport - but we do not pay to have him ridden at a competition, as that is part of his livery. And if he wins money, we split it 50/50 with the rider.

We have one in at the moment and his owner pays for everything, including his registration, entry fees and diesel money (we use our lorry).

He rides on a non-payment basis but keeps any prize money.

That was the same as the deal I had when Hannah was with a professional.
However to make it affordable the livery was IMO reasonable at £100pw but this was about 6 years ago now!

Last time i had one of mine competed by a professional, we paid for everything. Winnings were split and i took any trophies, rosettes and the like ;p

We didnt have to pay anything in regards to transport as she never took just him somewhere and it was her own box - so he went as one of her others.

Nor did we have to pay for her to actually ride him - that was considered as being included in the livery. Looking back, we had a pretty god deal really

His livery never went up, it was still just charged as full. She rode him nearly every day (id just take him for the occasional hack).
