Im interested in buying a pure arab youngster for sport. I want a filly, possibly a colt that will be tall (over 16hh), tough with plenty of bone to bring on to event. I have always wanted an arab to compete but its so difficult to find the sport bred arabs. I dont want a showing bred arab. Can anyone help and advise?

Good luck. I have just bought an Anglo Arab (60% arab) for endurance because I needed something taller and it is very, very tough to find even a 16hh Arab, they don't usually come that big and command premium prices. If you have the money, Shagya arabs are bigger and rangier.

Echo ChicoMio, there are very few 16hh arabs about, an anglo arab might be your best bet. My own arab is 15.3, he's Crabbett/Spanish bred, and plenty tall enough!

Hiya, dont be put off, My 2 year old Arab is expected to make 15.3hh -16hh he has quite a lot of bone, and is a crabbet type so does not have the very dished face...dont forget that Arabs are quite tough and can carry more weight than most other horses. I hope to do endurance on my boy but in the mean time he is prancing round the show ring during this summer to get him out and about to see things. Have a look on Arabian Lines website, lots of knowledgeable owners/breeders on there you will find one in no time, but dont forget to keep us updated and lots of pics when you find one.

My 10yo pure-bred Polish Arab is a shade over 15.3 and pretty solidly built. When I bought him rising 4 he was barely 15.1 but they do take a bit longer to fully mature than some other breeds. As SallyEllis says, Arabian Lines is a good place to find non-showing Arabs.

You have to join and be vetted to join AOBG too
