competition costs

Nothing much in the horse world is "lucrative" as such! But I bought and sold some project ponies for a few years (one at a time), mainly as a hobby - I really enjoy backing and bringing on babies but I did make profit out of them too, normally at the end of the day roughly £2k (bought them for £500, normally sold them for £2,500). I'd have the ponies for about 2 or 3 months before selling them. Would always buy them about May and sell in July/August time. I just saw them as a bit of summer fun though, I imagine you could make far more profit out of it if you tried. The £2k profit simply helped fund competing my other horses anyway so hardly "profit"!
