My horse lacks energy - he his fit and is in good condition but soooooolaid back.

My instructor has advised me to look at competition mixes or other energy feeds.

We compete in dressage or xc most weekends. 15.3 cob x (more cob by his laid back attitude)

I just want a bit more sparkle from him.

Which do you use and what would you advise.

Thanks

do you feed him a balancer?? It may be that he isn't getting enough vitamins from his regular feed. I would recommend phoning around the feed companies. My eventer was exactly the same prob as yours a few weeks ago and Baileys helped me a lot, they don't push you take their products and also will incorporate other companies feeds in their advice if you are already feeding them. D&H would also prob be another good one to try.

Thing is, he's a cob x so as you say, he's naturally laid back. You'll never be able to make him into a TB ;)

The only thing I'd really recommend is a decent vit & min supplement with B vitamins in it as a lack or iron can make them sluggish. Otherwise, there's numerous "competition" fees out there to try - you just have to try them and see if it helps, what works for one horse won't for another :)

Definitely try a balancer/ vitamin supplement first and see if he improves. If not, I feed my connie Spillers Response slow release energy mix instead of pony nuts in the summer, which gives him plenty of energy without him being silly for competing.
