hi all,

i have previously worked with a supposid proffessional competition rider in the showjumping sector, i have seen some real horrific beatings of the horses and this which i have reported to the RSPCA and the ILPH, which did attend but i still find that this is still to this day going on i have managed to find some people that have also worked for the same showjumper(female) that have said exactly the same thing and they left the yard for the same reasons as me, we have all since found the same problem, that she is known in the area for doing what she does but no one has reported her the reason is that nobody wants to employ you after you have worked for her i feel that it is because they are concerned about there horses safety and that you might batter there horses (by the way if anyone wants to know who the person is and hasnt worked it out by now then please mail me PM me and i will let you know) everyone says that she is a pro well if thats what pro's do then wheres the boundary between telling the horse off for the mistake it has made and battering it till its backside bleeds and it is sore and swollen.

i wonder has anyone else on the forums had this problems or wittnessed this before and what is your own opinion on it, i am a pro horse trainer and i feel that this is the wrong way to train?????

Maybe you ought to have taken a few photos or filmed some of this alleged horse abuse. You need evidence to make claims like that. If you have alot of witnesses (the other former members of staff) maybe you could speak to the BSJA and see if they want to look into it?

As KVS says, evidence is what is needed, not hearsay, unfortunately, if you really want to protect horses from this person/this kind of thing in the future.
I used to work for a top eventer and saw him lose his temper once or twice, not nice, but not a real "beating" as such. I have heard of another former eventer who used to thrash horses, and once beat one for stopping until it wee'd itself in panic.

It does go on, it is very bad, and I hope riders who do this will get let down by their horses at vital moments, preferably onto their heads.
as someone said, "the only two emotions that have a place in the saddle are patience and humour."

Agreed.. What goes around comes around!
I've also seen a top eventer have a go at a horse, gobbing it in the teath for so long and so hard that it bled a fair bit and had to be ridden in a hackamore (sp?) for a week after, as well as beating horses black and blue...

I've also seen another top eventer, schooling a horse over a corner fence, the horse looked like it was locked onto the fence, and ran out at the last min, so said rider hit it pretty hard down the shoulder with a dressage schooling whip a few times.. came again to the fence, and horse popped it nicely.. said rider then made a fuss about it, lots of patts etc. jumped another easy fence, and the corner again, made a fuss of it again, and then put it away...

First rider isn't on teams, second rider is

Well done you for reporting this woman. As you have spoken up for these horses, can you push it a bit further and speak again to the RSPCA and ILPH, who you originally contacted, and update them that it is still happening. Ask them what happened following their visit, and ask them, what needs to happen so that they can take action. See if you can persuade anyone else who has worked there to report what they have seen independently. If you get little interest, report it to other welfare agencies. I found the BHS to be quite good actually.

I got involved in a cruelty case a little while ago and had to sit down and think was I up for going to court as a witness for the prosecution. Although I instinctively didn't want to, my conscience won out and I agreed to. You have to know how far you are going to take this and its not always an easy decision but those horses in this woman's control need you to take this as far as you can.

These stories are disgusting. There is no space in the equestrian world for these type of people.

Kerilli- I find that story utterlly heart breaking.

I think one thing that may help is if grooms refuse to work there because of this, if she has to do all the workload on her own at the very least she might question why she can't get staff.

never going to happen - most of the staff have been there years and are treated as family - and are into the same tactics of getting what they want from horses.

Oh god thats awful then, usually bad treatment gets heard of and people give the place a wide berth as they don't want to be associated with a bad reputation.

Where are the owners of this rider, they would be appalled or does she just compete her own.

Please pm who she is as I have had SJ train my horse and would want to avoid her.
