as title.

My parents 12yo collie is staying with me while theyre away on holiday and he's basically skin and bone, he has been to the vets and they say theres nothing physically wrong with him but he only seems to have a very small appetite these days.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi I asked this Q a few weeks ago for my 'Supermodel' Setter:D, she isnt old, but has been through the wars and doesnt eat huge volumes. Everybody told me to mix Tripe in with her complete feed.
She is wolfing it down, and quite large amounts (introduced slowly). It has a lot more fat in that her complete feed. Its only been a few weeks, but its looking good!

You need a feed with higher protein. try some of the puppy/junior foods, also put a tablespoon of oil on it as well, or add in a tablespoon of micronised linseed to it. Not codliver oil as that is really bad for dogs.

Have her teeth been checked lately? I can't believe the difference in my old lurcher (14 this time) since hers have been done; I'll never take them for granted again or how low grade pain which you don't know about can affect their whole being.

Dirty or decayed teeth in dogs ..and humans..can cause many problems such as kidney and heart disease simply by the toxins slowly releasing into the body.It shortens their life;in fact a skilled dentist I knew said it was a main reason why human lives were shorter in past times.

Tripe added to a good quality food will definitely put weight on, and he will love it so appetite will improve. If you don't want to deal with tripe, Natures Diet is a good wet food for mixing, much higher quality than most and dogs love it!

teeth check defo :)

my springer x collie banged the weigh on pedigree (yellow bag - dried food)!

obvs i dont want her banging the weight on so she was switched to beta light :)
