Since having my baby 6 mths ago my self confidence went out the window in all aspects to do being 'me'. I am extremely happy in role of Mum and in role of Wife but hate going out by myself where there are other people (even shopping daunts me!), having girly catch ups with friends etc, I always feel really self conscious and a bit useless. Anyway, with my husbands encouragement I brought a new horse about a month ago now, I think he wanted me to get back to having some me time again doing something I enjoyed. She was a wonderful hack but as green as grass schooling. Today I had a lesson and I quote my instructor when he said 'I barely recognise this horse since your first lesson (week before I brought her) she has come on so much'.
When I got her she couldn't trot a decent circle, fell out the shoulder constantly and was too unbalanced to canter in the school. She leaned hugely on the left rein and it felt like carrying an elephant when riding.
Though we still have a long way to go, she is trotting beautifully on both reins in an outline, lateral work coming on a treat and canters 20m circles well on both reins. I no longer feel like I carry her and she is light in the contact - it may be simple stuff but I am so pleased with her.
I am pretty chuffed with myself and it feels so good to feel good at something again that is just about 'me'! Hope that makes sense!
