Compressed hay

Does anyone have experience/opinion on compressed hay. I have not been happy with the local hay I have been buying at £4.50 a bale - it has been dusty and not a nice hay smell about it. So yesterday bought a couple of bales of compressed hay, opened this morning and it seems very dry and stiff, although it does like nice quality grass. Do people soak it? Will have to see if ponies are enjoying it but would be interested in what other people think.

Wrapped like haylege, but dry like hay. Price wise is more expensive than hay but cheaper that haylege.

yeah i use it for my goats and the horses get it occasionally, they always like it, i dont soak it and its nice stuff. waaay more expensive than normalhay though, each bag is about three times the price of a normal bale here
