Thinking about going to this on Sunday as it's close to my yard, but I can't find any information on it???

My horse has never been on a fun ride before... what's it like?! It's a lot of our local hacks we already know but I don't know how far it is.

I'd like it to be as quiet as possible horse wise as he's only young and may not take to being out in a very large group or having groups haring past him...

Any thoughts? Has anyone done it? Doesn't help that I've never done a fun ride before either!!!

I can answer some of your question. I don't know about the ride in Glos, as we are doing a ride just the other side of Shepton Mallet.

Generally speaking, fun rides are around 10 miles, the ones I have been to have not been quiet, although you do often find yourself with the place to yourself for a while.

The last ride I did at Cirencester park had 400 riders and 200 to 300 is not uncommon. Obviously they don't all set off at the same time and you usually set off in pairs or small groups, but inevitably there are those who want to pass. Very often the riders will call to ask if it is OK to pass, although you do get the occasional.....person who just comes charging past.

Fun rides are good fun and they are also a good way to get your horse used to having a lot of other horses about, my boys eye were out on stalks for the first half hour of our first ride, now he gets excited, but that's more to do with the space and the jumps than the other riders and horses.

It is a good idea to go with someone you know, it means you have a bit of company and someone to help if things do get a little tense.

I hope you can find the ride and have a good day.
