a couple of things really how do you think he is looking weightwise, i am slightly concerned he is a little on the heavyside for a pure TB, he is just being brought back into work after 14months off so no real muscle or topline yet.

also whlist i have you attention how old do you lot think he is. i do know i just want to see whether you think he is looking young or old.

ok the important bit the photos

Its hard to say as that could just be a big grass belly - but he does look a bit overweight from the pics.

Have you tried condition scoring him? Can you feel his ribs?

hmm , tricky! He looks like an very old boy, cos of his dipped back... but he has a babys face and eye. so im gona say hes a 12yr old..
condition wise, with conformation like that you dont want any more weight on him , try and tone him up around the belly area if poss, i would also have concerns re his hocks, looks like lots of bony development going on!

I actually don't think he is massively overweight, his dipped back mean that his tummy is equally dipped by the same amount (I think)

I would put him at around 20, but only really because of the dipped back

Nice chap BTW

thanks for the comments his is 17 and has suddenly aged noticably in the last year. i don't think he is grossly overweight just a little tubby due to lack of work you can feel his ribs and if you catch him at the wrong angle you can see them.

stinkipinki not concerned re the hocks as they have always been like that and he was bone scanned in decemeber and the vets were happy with everything higher than his feet. the quote was nothing "unusally for his age" he does have arithic changes in his back legs but that is due to a hard life as a racer for 6 years.

I don't think he is overweight either - he just looks like he has a grass belly. If you take too much off his back/bum will look worse (typical aged TB)

Personally I would chop a good few inches off his tail and get him out to a VHS class :-)

He does carry it high doesn't he

it covers a lot of his legs though when just standing

In any case I would definately be showing him as a veteran - especially after seeing the riden photo
