Condition - cc please

Took some pics at the yard yesterday , they're not super quality as the sun was too bright but would welcome some cc and any advice on what to do with him to improve condition. Currently doing 45 mins schooling every other day including walk trot transitions, leg yields and circles.


Oh and I should mention he had a problem last week with his hind legs filling as we moved him into a paddock on his own, long story but him and his best friend have been a bit over exuberant in play and one of them was going to get seriously hurt, so he's not been moving around as much as he should be.

He's 17 years old and a Selle Francaise (Arab x French trotting horse), behaves like a daft Arab when you let him off in the large paddock but is an absolute angel to ride.

I'd say he looks pretty good for a horse of his age, living in a fairly punishingly hot climate . What are your concerns?

His coat looks pretty woolly - is it cold at night out there?
 
I've got no particular concerns but I'm a returning newbie, last owned a horse 30 years ago . I suppose I'm really just worried that I don't let this gorgeous boy down. He has had a fairly punishing life including some time as an endurance horse, hence the dreadful scarring on his face and across his hind.

I dnt want to push him too hard but then I don't want to have him lose condition. Current schedule is one day off a week and three days of schooling, both ground work and ridden and three days of gentle hack either around the farm or out in the desert if there is someone around to come with me.

It's relatively cold out here at the moment 8-12 c during the night so he is a bit wooly at the moment although it seems to be starting to come off. He had an absolute freak out on Saturday when we had torrential rain - seriously not amused ! But then it's a very pleasant 28-30 c during the day . Currently he's out 24/7 but as it gets hotter he will be in during the day and out at night.

How does his topline look ? Can I improve it and any suggestions.
 
Hi Gasper. Nice horse :) really pleased to hear it's cooled down as I'll be out there in just over a week. oH is based at Airport in Abu dhabi. :)

Well it had cooled down but it's now starting to get warmer ! Send me a pm if you want to meet up for a coffee or something while you're here - our house is close to the airport.
 
Thank you Gasper. I may well do that if you don't mind. I get a bit stuck fir what to do some days while he's at work. I do have lessons at the Royal stables but it would be lovely to have someone to go and have a chat over coffee. OH also moved nearer the airport this year so it sounds like you are not far away. :) can't remember the address right now but it's nit far from the big disc building. :)
