In December 2012 I loaned my 16yr old standardbred gelding, Ollie. I didn't know he was a standardbred at the time, as you can see from the first pic (this was the photo his owner used on the advert) he looked like he had ID or Sec D in him, but I quickly realised he was simply obese.
In Jan/Feb 2013 he lost weight dramatically. He wasn't being worked due to a lack of facilites and seriously wet fields (he doesn't like to hack alone either) and upon worming him we found he had a massive encysted small redworm burden. I knew he had been wormed a few days before I had him, but upon querying found it was with an inappropriate wormer for the time of year.
In march he had gained enough weight that I started to lunge him, then bring into light ridden work. He was still very ribby but putting on both weight and condition steadily.
The last photo was taken last week. It's taken FOREVER to get him back to where I wanted him, but as you can see between the first and last photos he's a completely different horse. I have tried not to go back over his old pics too often, but stumbled on the photos on my FB account and was mildly shocked when I compared them. Just thought it was worth sharing!
