Ok so Jaggles.. has always had Allen & Page calm & condition and I was thinking about changing it (no real reason - just wondered if there was a similar condition flake/cube)

It's more of a maintenance feed - he doesn't need to put on weight/he does well - but I would like him to have something as he is now in the starvation paddock (Due to straining his back in the muddier/grassier fields) so I would like to feed something that will keep his current condition - he ATM is not shining as much as he generally would

What do would you guys suggest/recommend?

Also Sugar Beet? - This will OBV put on weight - however if I fed a small scoop each day would this put on huge amounts of weight? - I'm looking to get his condition up before I start some work with him again in a few weeks time... I want him tiptop to start his work!! hehe!!!

You guys may tell me to stick as is... A&P C&C seems to do the job.. just was looking for diff ideas!!

Could you add a drop of oil to his feed? I would personally keep the C&C as you dont want him to fizz up when not in work. Or you could try the soaked oats diet - dont ask me about it I have no idea but from what I gather quite a few people on here really rate it.

Do you feed supliments - I have put my mare on CLOP, which has all sorts in just to make sure she is getting all the vits and minerals she needs. Also it is a pre and pro biotic.

[/ QUOTE ]Ahh forgot to say - he gets a squirt of Linseed in each feed!!

I don't want to fizz him up - your right... Don't really want to feed him oats either TBH!! LOL!!

I'd stick to his current feed if it suits him and adjust it if his condition changes. I feed speedibeet to my laminitic and fat ponies. If his usual shine has gone it may well be due to him being out of sorts ie his back so will hopefully improve as he does.

[/ QUOTE ]Hey sojeph,

may be a stupid question but speedibeet vs sugarbeet?! - any difference in content? i.e more/less sugar?!

With regards to his C&C - it doesn't seem to be 'working as well' ... he has only in the last week had back issues again... he was looking a bit 'pants' before that... hmmmm

Thanks x

as far as I know..sugar beet has molasses added and speedibeet doesn't so is therefore ok for laminitics so would assume that speedibeet will not put excess weight on.

Speedibeet is 5% sugar, molassed sugar beet is about 21% sugar. C&C actually contains unmollassed beet in its ingredients!

We once used spillers conditioning cubes on one of ours on the yard. He just gets fed these and hi-fi and he looks great. They dont make him fizzy, are good for keeping on weight and he has a super shine to his coat.

[/ QUOTE ] I think Benevit actually contains linseed oil (used to be cod-liver oil but they changed it), so check the tub label, because it will save you adding extra.
