Hi

Wondered what your experiences of conditioning cubes are and what brand would you recommend?

Was looking at Baileys number 4, Allen and Page Calm and Condition, Top Spec conditioning cool cubes and Spillers cubes.

My just 4yo is just being backed and brought on, He is fed fast fibre and Ride and Relax with ulcergard after having nasty stomach ulcers as a result of peritonitis. As he is now working, seems to look a little lean to me and wondered if adding some conditioning cubes may help. He is 17.1hh KWPNXTB.

Starch needs to be as low as poss to avoid gastric upset.

Any advice greatly received. Just would like to see him with bit more on him

I like calm and condition myself. If your horse needs a bit more then maybe drop the fast fibre as it is a pretty low cal food - no need to double up on fast fibre as well as ride and relax? Obvious question, but I assume teeth are ok and he is getting enough forage?

It was recommended by Allen and Page to feed Fast fibre as a chaff replacement in conjunction with the Ride and Relax. Obviously with the previous stomach issues he has had, would like to keep him on the fast fibre, digestion seems to be fine on it.

Teeth etc are fine, he has been away 5 weeks now and getting ample forage etc.

Was thinking of reducing the ride and relax and incorporating some conditoning cubes especially as now working 5 times a week with the fast fibre.

Do you think that would help build him up a bit especially whilst at boarding school?

Ah, sorry, didn't think of that! Your plan sounds good. The calm and condition is mainly sugar beet so should be pretty gentle on his stomach. I actually found my mare more chilled when she was on calm and condition than the ride and relax (think it has corn in? Sent her a bit mad!). Am a bit of an allen and page fan, like their no molasses range!

I would use the fast fibre and something like Winergy condition. It's a lot lower starch than any cube, but high in fibre and oil. With the FF, you won't need to feed as much of it as is advised on the bag :)
