Ok....following on from the other 'confession' booth, what are the worst crimes you have commit/ are committing with regards to your horse? Here are mine:

1. No passport
2. Havent wormed for......*coughs*
3. Havent had teeth done for 3 years
4. NEVER had back done

if i think of any more, i will add them....

Are you serious...???

I am normally the most conservative person in the world with horses but I cannot believe you do not worm or do teeth.
I have watched a horse that was not on a correct worming programme writhe around in agony with colic and heart problems it was not until it was shot and cut open that the vet discovered it was riddled with worms. We do not spend money on backs, suppliments, healers etc but worming is essential. I am really shocked.
As for teeth - they are so important as well - you are cutting stupid corners which will only be to your horses detriment.

I really hope this is not a wind up post and normally I cannot be bothered to respond to these.

keep your hair on guys!!!!

i never said i NEVER worm....we just realised yesterday that she's a couple of weeks overdue so have bought one, and she's being done tomorrow!!!!!

as for teeth tho, i stand my ground on this one im afraid. she's been done twice since i have had her; the first time, he didnt seem to do very much but charged a fortune, and the second time, they were so rough with her it has made her terrified of them.....i believe that if something isnt wrong, dont try to fix it....trust me, i would get someone out in a trice if there was anything untoward.

that said, i myself havent been to the dentist for 11 years....

not many people have their horses back done unless they notice something may be wrong- but that is the only point you have made which i can say is acceptable

no passport- well, your breaking the law... not wormed or had teeth done- i feel sorry for your poor horse, get it done asap...

o yay....i appear to have started yet another come-have-a-go-at-me thread!

as i have just said, i fully appreciate the importance of worming, and as such was mortified when i realised she was overdue...SO PLEASE DONT THINK IM THAT IRRESPONSIBLE!!!! she is being done tomorrow, no fear!

and for those who 'feel sorry for my poor horse' - does she look like a neglected and unhappy animal to you????

um, teeth overdue.

back never been done (really should).

If I forget to worm him inline with the programme i just use an all in one wormer and pick up from there. (well, I suppose it's better than not at all... and i've only done it once).

*sighs in relief at not being alone*

The difference in riding my horse after his teeth have been done is amazing - he is lighter in the contact, steadier in his head and is less fussy in the mouth. Some horses need it done regularly some do not. I agree all mine survived before the equine dentist came along none of my ponies were ever done but but now I compete at a much higher level and every little bit helps.

no need to get narky- i posted after reading your original thread which looked like you hadn't wormed for a long time, i hadn't read the post that says your doing her tomorrow.

Oh good for you on the worming then

And no, that lovely horse of yours does not look too unhappy

And NO, I didn't mean it as a "come and go at you" post

I'm glad you're worming her tomorrow - write on the calendar/in your diary/put a reminder on your phone for when she's next due

Muppet!!

Re. the teeth thing. I do understand why you are now reticent to have her teeth done, after her (and your) last experience, but it really is essential to at least get them checked. The chap that used to do mine (doesn't now, coz I've moved to the other side of the country) was FANTASTIC!!! He has never had to have a horse sedated for him to do - he's a wonderful horseman! H even let him have a gander at his teeth with no arguing - H was 7 months old ATT!! Do you have your own transport? If so, contact a local RS or similar and see if they hold EDT clinics and take your mare along - they often hold a back clinic alongside, so if you wanted you could get a full MOT on your mare

Also, you could look up an EDT here http://www.equinedentistry.org.uk/page/search.htm

Perhaps you should have a little think about the consequences beore creating inflammatory threads like this one.

ok, i AM gonna let rip now, because lets face it, im only posting on here because its nice to talk to people while im on my own at work and get some different views/stories/experiences..... get off your flippin' high horse!!!! if i wanted to 'have a little think', i would go and put myself in a corner, like my mum used to when i was 4....

i have not once complained, i dont think, about people feeling i am wrong/right...i said 'keep your hair on' but that was only because i hadnt been quite clear enough and had led people to believe something that was not quite right! i am perfectly aware that posting here opens me up to others' views, but i am open to discussing these views and even agreeing to disagree. and come on, its not THAT inflammatory...or are you saying that everyone is perfect except me?

*slinks off to the corner to 'think' about 'consequences'*

Im wondering if you like people having a moan at you...?
I dont think its a good thing about not worming...Ive seen some really bad cases at my vets in the past due to not worming its also quite ignorant.
Also the passport business...Do you know if you are caught...and usually this is a place where people will look for this sort of announcement you could be fined up to £5000...its also completely illegal...It makes thoses of us who put the effort in huff in annoyance at this sort of post....

You need to get a passport, local person was fined recently for not having a passport, if you got £5000 to spare then thats fine! and to put 2. Havent wormed for......*coughs* then complain after people question you, is YOU in the wrong, okay you posted she only a few weeks overdue but that was after people questioned you.... to not worm is completely irresponsible, a horse can look perfectly well and still be riddled with worms that cause damage ...

Its a shame you are not closer to me I have a fantastic dentist who really loves and understands horses (he is about a million years old) but I reckon your horse would like him...He is so gentle and kind and takes it at the horses pace and is only £20

my confessions are
dont ride enough
never had back done

TBH, i've never been one to care much what other people think of me, and i dont think im going to start now! i dont mind others having different views, and as iv said before, i feel that forums such as these are good for people to 'air their differences', so to speak. i do resent being told what i should or shouldnt do, but hey! if i cared that much, i wouldnt post here, would i?

as for the passport thing, i dare say i will get round to it, but i've got no intention of sending my horse for slaughter any times soon, i'm not competing at the moment and i very much doubt anybody could track anybody down simply from being on here!

OR ARE YOU A PASSPORT SPY!?!?!??! *runs and hides*

bless, it would be nice to find someone like that again......we used to have a great guy come out to the ponies, and even our little Sec A mare, terrified of men and v v v headshy, was fine with him! but he's now gone to america
frown.gif
i just hated it wen we took her last time, we went to a place everyone round here recommends, but they were so heavy handed with her, and i ended up with a trembling horse with a bloody mouth who i couldnt ride for 2 weeks after!

Don't count on it hun!! Not too long ago there was a young female user, who boasted and lied about her pony - saying one day that it had really bad Lammi and the next posted pics of herself jumping it! A user on here traced who and where she was and sent either the RSPCA or ILPH round! So please do NOT think you can hide behind the safety of your computer! For the sake of £20 or so, get off your arse
tongue.gif
and get her passported!! If you are faced with a £5K fine - can you fund it? Will you have to sell her to pay it? You can't sell her without a passport!!

OMG no wonder she hates dentists..my chap always does it by hand with old fashiond rasps (you can hear when its done a real hollow sound) he hates those float things and has been out to a few where they have taken off way too much and the poor things can barely chew..

Bless horsey TBH I am sure she would let you know if she needed them doing she looks gorgeous

Don't have teeth done as routine. Have them checked at jabs time (every 2 yrs). Only 2 of mine have been done twice in 9yrs. The rest were fine at last check.
One of my shettie's see's the farrier approx twice a year.
2 of my ponies have never seen a farrier yet!! (only just aquired them). One is 3 and the other 6. Nice little feet...
I don't check my horses everyday
I don't rug them as a rule and I rarely feed them
