So I took Big Ears hunting yesterday for the first time. I haven't ridden a horse hunting for about five years and hadn't ridden much at all in that time either. My confidence was nil due to a bad fall a few years back and not riding for so long, but my girl was an absolute dream
She looked at everything with massive interest, which is understandable as she's only 4 and hasn't seen hounds before, but that was all she did! No fidgeting, no taking off (despite children on ponies bombing around us/into us even though I warned them she was a youngster), she trotted and cantered out of choice, instead of pacing (we're working on her balance at the moment) so I was pleased with that too.
But the main thing is, when I got home last night and washed her and put her to bed, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. She's everything my old mare wasn't, and she is building my confidence back up without even realising she's doing it! I'm still grinning this morning about it, and can't wait to take her again next week
Soppy, gushy ramble over! Sorry, just had to share with people who understand (non-horsey mum thinks I'm behaving very strangely!)
