ok well Frankie is coming on great in the school, our lessons are paying off! however i dont want us both to get bored so i try to tack him out for a hack about twice a week. however...i am starting to lose my confidence! and this has come from nowhere!

the hacking around Frankie's yard is completely crap. 2 big main roads with chavs and boy racers, lorries and motorbikes. it doesnt really scare him, just me! after about a 25 min walk we can get onto a common, i am still not sure where to go on it as ive only ever been on there about 3 times, on my own. Frankie spooks at noises int he grass, doesn't listen to me one little bit and starts to jog. i want to have fun with him but i cant find anywhere decent to canter, except one place but i can only really get about 5 strides of canter out of him! plus if i ask him to go faster he tenses up, he is still spooky and tbh it scares me a little bit.

i am so annoyed with myself because i have ridden horses like this before, so i dont understand where this loss of confidence has come from. i asked him to trot on the common on Monday, and his neck was really bent tinto his chest and he must've grown about 5 inches. i know its because he doesnt get out much, and i know that the answer to that is to take him out more! but i get nervous.

there isnt anyone to come out with me either, because i ride later than everyone else at the yard. this sucks because i want to gallop around to countryside and have fun like i used to on other horses, but this is no fun.

i cant move Frankie to a yard with better hacking; he doesn't belong to me and i dont think its fair to ask his owner to move hi just to satisfy me. (is it?

Sounds not ideal but it is a case of perserverance and getting him out more. Is there no way yu can arrange in the summer to go away to the beach or the forests to go for weekends away?
What about at weekends or do u not have him then?

i have mentioned to his owner about it, and she said it's because he doesn't get out much, which i can agree with. i have also asked about the lorry - they have one but at the moment it has no front wheels (!

) and is currently just stuck at the yard. i would love to take him to the beach and just let him go, and although i'll be nervous i wont be as nervous because i could see where i am going (if that makes sense - i can see where i'll have to stop him!)

do you think i should just hack him out for a week, and skip schooling\/ just get him used to the common? (and get me used to it!)

oh yeah forgot to mention that i have mentioned about taking him out in the lorry, and she said 'yes i agree he needs to get out and about' but i dont want to keep nagging her about it!

i need hints, im not a nagger

Have you got a friend who could come out with you on a bike? My o/h does this for me & it makes me feel a lot more confident.
