I have been at the same riding school for about 10 years now and recently left and have started sharing my friends horse one day a week. Last time I rode said horse we went on a hack with my friend on foot and me riding, she told me to jump a tiny log (about 50cms) but i didnt have the confidence to jump it even though i jumped the same horse 1m a couple of months ago. I have put this down to only jumping show jumps at my riding school and whenever we went to the cross country field, never being allowed to jump

So what i was wondering is if any of you lovely people have any advice on how to get over this fear because i was really disappointed with myself that i didnt do it
(for any advice given you can have a share of my chocolate brownie :p )

My post is probably not a lot of help - but it will come with time - I have a problem with hacking out - but I have started trying again - taking things slowly & I am already feeling a bit more confident - just keep doing what you are doing & you will know when you are ready - there is a big difference to ridng @ a riding school to be out on your own (even though you were with your friend) I will keep my fingers crossed for you -you will get there xx

Understandable. It's one thing to jump a horse in the relative safety of an arena and quite another to jump out in the open, the size of the jump is irrelevant. Can you go out on foot with your friend to see how the horse jumps when out for someone else? This might reassure you.

But in the mean time don't beat yourself up. This all sounds very new to you so take each step at a time and don't do anything that you don't feel comfortable with. There's plenty of time to gain trust and confidence in the horse (in this new setting) and one day you'll see the offending log and just want to go and jump it!

^^ This :)

I'm still having confidence issues with hacking but it's getting better.

And seeing somebody else take him over it may just show you that you have nothing to worry about! :)

Thank you :) the way my riding school used to talk about solid fences has freaked me out quite a bit. My friend is very good at pushing me as she has seen me ride lots of times and knows of what i am capable of. I think your right once iv seen the horse jump it with my friend (her owner) il feel better about it :)
