My YO is away for a few days so I'm looking after the motley crew. Took her TB out for a plod (I was asked to) and all was going well until I decided to have a trot heading towards home.

He took off and I could not stop him. Must have galloped a good mile going up and down some steep hill. How he stayed upright I have no idea.

Then we reached the end of the bridleway and carried on straight out onto the road- thank God nothing was coming. Got back to the yard and the bugger had hardly sweated up at all. I on the other hand was having an asthma attack and took me 10 minutes to get off as my legs were shaking so much.

So my tiny bit of confidence I had about riding again has been well and truely shattered.

Sorry bit of a pointless ramble really.

Im sorry this has happened thats such a shame. I dont know about your previous confidence issues but what possessed you to take out this high spirited horse with no breaks? And if the yard owner didn't tell you this could happen his ass should get kicked. Hope you recover.

Oh no, are you ok?

And that is why I always go as slow as possible home.

Thank god there was nothing on the road, it could have been a lot worse.

((hugs))

What a shame..they are always more keen on the way home but if her horse is inclined to take a hold she could have warned you to walk on the return trip. Don't let this put you off, you stayed on, you didn't bail out and nothing bad happened so pat yourself on the back

My goodness - you really are having a rough time of it at the moment aren't you?! So sorry to hear of this latest event - Hope you feel better soon

Oh honey... All I can say is your YO should not have asked you to ride this horse if they know your confidence was just starting to come back. Please don't try to ride this horse again, after all, your confidence is so important and Amber and you need to make a bond without you worrying about what this horse has done.

It is scary when they go like that, I am not surprised you had an asthma attack, I think i would and I don't even have asthma!

Well he is normally a very laid back chap. I've ridden him before and been out with him and he has always been great. If I had know he was likely to do anything like ths I would not have ridden him.

I wasn't planning on heading home, just following the bridleway (he obviously knows the route better than me).

Think I could have my own soap drama at this rate.

My daughter got bolted with last week on a horse she had never ridden before - I had told her to tuck in behind me and use me as a brake if needed but as soon as the horse touched the track it went. I shouted at her to turn and head for the top of the hill thinking it would stop but it carried on she went out of sight over the top of the hill- it was really scary, I pushed the horse I was riding (a horrible slow cob) but before I got to the top of the hill she reappeared still being bolted with back down the side. She got thrown up its neck because it was jumping all the rough tracks and finally she fell off. Poor kid, really scared and upset but no physical damage. The horse galloped off and there is a cattle grid at the end of the drive to the yard so I had to leave her there on the moor and try to get to the yard drive first, the stupid loose horse instead of going straight home, turned and finished the ride straight onto the road and right through the village! No harm to anyone luckily. I didn't make her get back on but the next day she rode her own horse quite happily but when we hunted a few days later she was a bit nervous.

Don't let it put you off, find someones nice slow cob to go for a plod on one sunny Sunday afternoon.

Oh you poor thing.

I dont think its is her YO fault, afterall she knows you are going to be bringing on youngsters so must have thought you were more than capable of riding him, it just sounds like one of those unfortunate things, luckily no one was hurt.

Can you perhaps ride him in the field as i know you dont have a school yet, just so you know he cant go anywhere and build up some confidence.

Or come and borrow one of my boys hun.

xx

Lots of hugs. Have been reading your posts & have felt so very sad for you with everything you've been going through of late. Started crying at work when I read about poor Sirrius. Lets just hope that things start to get better now! Try & get back up there soon & re-build your confidence. I totally lost mine when I first got my TB - he is still a little sh*t at times but doesn't phase me anymore! I know you'll get there!

What an awful story - it must have been truly terrifying. I've had a lot of confidence knocks over the years, as has everyone. Just remember all the things you enjoy about riding. I have a couple of lessons at an RS if things are really low. Just learn the lesson from this, and get back on!

All these things happen for a reason though.. I wonder what the moral was this time?

Well as I said normally he is fine and YO would have told me if he was liable to do that. Maybe he just had one of those days? I'm not planning on riding him again though.

Amber was being a moomin today as well! Once I know about her bog spavin I can work her or not. She has been groomed so much she'll be going bald!

It could be that spring is in the air and because you are a new rider to him he decided to try it on!

I took Lance out this afternoon and he was being a plonker too, had a heart attack over a jogger and decided to try and out run him, after almost sitting down he was so far back on his haunches LOL.
He is a pansy though.

Come and ride Beau hun, he will look after you 100%

Ravenwood I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your daughter, hope she is ok riding now.

It could be spring madness, or he decided he didnt like me LOL. Well I wanted to start riding more for working the youndster and Amber and I've been bolted with before- just not at warp speed or down a road!

Oh bless Lance. I'd love to ride Beau- if my legs reach past the saddle flaps that is.

Methinks this is not my year for horses!

You poor thing, well good luck has to be on its way for you!

You know you are more than welcome to come up here for a break, LOL I will get you a stepladder, I need one!

God you poor thing - I've had that happen to me but I was 12 so thought the whole thing was hilarious. It's so not when you get older is it?

Just remember that not all horses are like this - it's very likely to be a one off so don't make it loose your confidence xx

I understand how you feel - I was bolted with ages ago and I am only starting to get my confidence out hacking again. If something like that happened to me, confidence would be completely shattered. Have you thought of thought field therapy? Or bachs flower remedies?

Big hugs and sympathy from me xxxxxx
