This is hopefully a picture of my cob George. I am hoping to do showing with him, I am getting him measured so hopefully he will measure in.

I am hoping there are some cob showing bods on here that can give me their opinion of him. This is the only picture i have at the moment and was when i first got him, but I think you can see general confirmation and his markings. He is lacking muscle and top-line but this is coming as i school him.

Also are there any websites / forums dedicated to showing in particular cob showing.

Thanks

Does he move straight? Does he have presence that will catch the eye saying look at me? If he measures in looks like a HW cob to me. He looks in proportion but think it would come down to movement.

sorry should have said he does have straight movement and I think he does have a "thing" about him. He is quite workmanlike. I think he is quite handsome but bias.

He looks a nice type and is in lovely condition. Im sure he will do well, obviously movement and presence is a factor but he looks a nice sort and nicely marked.

Thanks for all your lovely comments. I love him dearly and we are having lots of fun together.

I will get some ridden pics together and post them to give people more of an idea.

I also thought LW cob rather than HW due to his bone.

Thanks again!

Just a quick word, don't panic about the top line (a vet would say he has plenty).
too many probs are caused by feeding for condition for the showring.
He is lovely as he is.

when will people realise that proper top line isnt gained by over feeding, it is gained by correct work and building up muscles!

bleuberry - There are a few obese horses in the show world which are over fed but as Conniegirl says correct top line isn't achieved by over feeding but by correct schooling. George has no muscle over his back or behind the saddle and he looks very weak behind and in the shoulder area. I don't over feed my horse and he is fed on a fibre based diet. He isn't a greedy horse either. So although my horse looks fine weight wise he is lacking muscle.

Of course 'top line' can be achieved by correct schooling and is the only advisable method.

Where in my reply did i state otherwise?? I was offering advice not a criticism.
People all to easily comment (and show judges) that ponies need this and that and the next thing the pony has developed lami because they are trying to achieve this blooming condition for the showring. With the help of conditioning feed, top line cubes etc.

We are after all talking about showing and there is much discussion about obese animals in the ring.

I was saying that the cob in the pic looks absolutely fine for the showring-even without a muscle grown top line or protein one.

Simple as.

You seem to have a problem with people who show.

Not everyone in the showring has obese horses, infact there has been a crackdown on it and less are fat now then they used to be.
It all comes down to a general misunderstanding when judges say needs more condition, what they mean is it needs muscleing up, not that it needs feeding till its eyes pop out!

the horse above needs more muscle over its back and hind quaters hence the it needs more topline.

Sorry but i think you have misunderstood me.

We have been showing for many years ourselves so, no, i dont have a problem with showing.
Mostly mountain and moorlands, also a hunter and we have shown show ponies earlier on.

It was just some friendly advice after many years experience doing the show circuit and still currently.
