Confo critique- hunter or Riding Horse?

Bought this fella as a companion but his paces are to die for. Plus he has a stunning neat little head. Now I want to do inhand stuff this summer. I think he's too chunky for RH classes so though small hunter? Obviously he will need tidying up. This is a pick of him 10 months ago (13hh) He is now 13.2hh- the show is in June-at a guess he will be 13.3hh by then- as just starting a new leggy growth spurt.

Is his confo good enough to show?

Hi firstly he is absolutely gorgeous yes he should be in the ring lol. Ok small hunters should be between 148 and 158 but you just wont get anything that is not tipping the scale at 158 (most are questionable that they are over height lol) My friend tried to show a 15h in small hunters and was dwarfed. He would do much better in his height bracket as a hunter pony (and would do really well) love him.

Please let me know how he gets on
 
i don't think he fits in either class tbh.

i would do youngstock classes and then WHP when he is old enough if he jumps well.

is he part Welsh? if so, you can do partbred classes.
 
no sadly he is a mix of breeds that they never have appropriate classes for. Techically he is a coloured- but his colour doesn't show- so will do pants in that. He is an appy x Blagdon cob- but not got the feathering for the cob classes. He's too chunky for the show hunter classes- but his paces as huge and stright so I thought he may try the small hunter 2 year old classes this summer. I have never found an in-hand 2year old class for hunter ponies- so technically he's unshowable- and seeing as I don't jump due to riding injury he doesn't seem to have a career with me :(
 
just show him in a general youngstock class for now and see how you get on! I'm sure the judges will love him and they might be able to sugest alternative classes for him...
 
A two year old Small Hunter will need to be a scaled down version of a Middleweight Show Hunter, and be measured at about 15.1 on show day. Sadly he will fail on both counts there. I think that for showing it is generally recognised that a pony that will measure say 14.2 at maturity must not exceed 14.1 aged 2, and 14.1 1/2 aged three.
 
Nope, will not fit either of thoses classes, as they are horse classes and he is a pony :)

He looks as though he would do well in a part bred class, and probably the 143cm show hunter pony class. You need to get a rider the correct age though, from what i remember the 143cm class is riders 15 and under?

You could show him in an inhand show hunter pony class, but definately not small hunter :)

He's certainly not unshowable. Where do you live? I'm sure there will be a show or two with either general youngstock classes (where you would show him as a hunter pony) or hunter pony/riding pony inhand classes. I have a similar youngster and have found quite a few shows that I could do with him this summer, from RC shows to county shows.

Im in Shrops- I show my NF at county level M&M but not seen any county shows suitable- Burwarton/Newport/Three Counties/Warikshire?Royal Welsh- all do not have the appropriate classes. Gutted- hopped I could get some experience at C Level as a dinky hunter type. Hmmm not sure what to do with him!

He's not unshowable!! forget county with him and have some fun local!! I would do youngstock, PC pony, sports/competiton pony, hunter type pony, etc there are loads of classes to enter, get him trimmed up pulled and plaited and he will look fantastic! I have a welsh C who isn't typey at all and this year we are forgetting M&M classes and doing all the above with her!
 
would love to but having to hire a box each time at £70 per day- its just not feasable- the shows have to be county or some sort of qualifiers- forking out over £100 on a fun day- as much as I would love it- I think the OH would disown me ! The boys have to have a job to do :)
 
I wonder then if you can trim him up enough for a sports pony class??? Or perhaps offer your help as a groom in return for a lift to a local show?? just some thoughts.....
