is this horse straight through its hocks?

^^^Agree, also the pastern on the hind leg nearest to us in the pic seems to be slightly more upright than on the other hind leg. But maybe that's just the angle of the photo.

interesting. ive been pounring over photos of this horse ( my horse ) and i cant see how he is straight through his hocks. The vet told me he is.

Gorgeous horse :)

I think the pastern on the near-hind is quite up-right. The off-hind from the pics look less so, there is more noticeable curve from the hoof to cannon bone in the off-hind. I think anyway? Again it's maybe just the angle of the pic.

There does seem to be a difference in the angle between both pasterns but if it's not causing any problems and just a minor conformational detail then then there's no real issue...he's still gorgeous :) though a shame he's broken :(

Hes been diagnosed with PSD - trying to figure out wether its primary due to conformation of secondary to something going on elsewhere. hence asking about the straight hocks.

PSD is more common in horses with straight hocks - but it's also common with horses working at a high level in dressage.

For what it's worth, I don't think his hocks are exceptionally straight - some people have an obsession about straight hocks - but I always remember what a leading Irish breeder said to me when I asked her if she thought my young stallion's hocks were too straight. She said: 'they're a little bit straighter than perfect - but I think hocks are more about function than shape!" (She's not wrong - a lot of top showjumpers have straight hocks!)

Is he part ID?

JG- he is DWB - a half-brother to my grey in my sig. He was my dream horse :( wise advice as always thank you! Hes worked at Novice level before he was broken, he was backed at 5, as he was very immature and looked like a total baby. His full sister is doing very well in the 5 year old classes witha top dutch rider. i guess he was from the parts bin or something :(

@Goldenstar - hes had PRP treatment, and i also bought the Arc Equine unit ( despite being somewhat skeptical, im willing to give anything a shot! ) Hes been on box rest for two weeks and start handwalking next week. Scanning in 10 weeks to see if op is suitable or not.
