A friend took me to look at a horse yesterday. It is a rising 5 Connie cross done nothing 15.1hh. I was concerned that when it put’s it’s offhand down it slightly twists the hoof & rotates it to the outside. When stood up four square the near hind hoof faces forward but the off hind is facing slightly outwards. The horse is quite close behind.
Every one of the fetlock, pastern, hoof axis’s (sp) are broken & not a smooth line. The front legs go slightly backwards rather than straight down.

She wants the horse to go up to BE novice eventing.
It is on for £5250.

I have said walk away as I think it is overpriced for what it has done (nothing). Plus it also bolted during the tryout & put my S-I-L on the floor.

Thoughts? Is the off hind likely to be a conformational problem? Any ideas as to whether it would cause problems long term? I was worried about potential problems down the line with suspensories.

Thats an OTT amount for most 5 yr olds, let alone a connie, thats done nothing
Without pics of the legs its hard to say, but I'd walk away, and find something with straight legs, built to do BE
Foals when born can twist in or out, (moreso when theyve been in a crampt womb) but a good farrier balances the hoof so the leg grows straight, I'm put off by any adult horse with deviations, as they may cause problems later in life. For 5k in the current climate your s-i-l could find much better than you describe

Were there any other horses around? If they all had dodgy feet/legs then it may be poor foot care/trimming and a good farrier may be able to help out. fwiw I also think it is way over priced and for that money she could find something without obvious problems.

wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. there are alot of nice connies out there for less money without problems. keep looking!

If in doubt Walk on by! Sounds like there is a bit of an issue there, whether or not it will cause a problem down the line is a mystery but I wouldn't want to buy it wit that question hanging over me all the time...

Thanks Guys. You have all confirmed very much what i was thinking & the advice i have given her. We'll just have to wait & see if she takes it

Just looking at the price I wouldn't go for it, even if it had all clean limbs. The price is way to much for a 15.1 connie who hasn't doing anything.
To put things into persepective I bough Lace, a 16.1/2 Rising 5yo TBx who could easily go novice for less than half that price back in December

sometimes when the toes point behind and the horse is a little close it can be due to some tension/injury in the pelvis.

my thoughts too. But at that price and with the other problems I would def walk away!! lets hope she takes your advice
