My 9 month old tb is registered with weatherbys but has no name on the passport. Weatherbys have said that in order to race or breed i need to register her name costing £145, but I am not planning on either of these... do I just stick the name I want on the change of ownership form? Soooooo confused over this and the change of ownership form has to be sent this week! Ahhh!

You could always overstamp her with SHBGB (costs £25) which will mean you can name her and change her into your ownership at the same time. This does mean that she won't be visible under the name you've chosen for her on NED and Weatherbys won't acknowledge it either, she will still be known by them as the filly out of ?? and by ??.

You need to read both of these forms and complete page 3 of the application form then send it in with your passport (and money!) for your passport to be amended. Remember to scan in all the pages of the passport that have details of your filly and any jabs she's gad just so you have a record in case it's lost in the post; I always send mine either as registered post or signed for just for peace of mind.

It's a good idea to ring them first to check that the name you want is available too; both them and Weatherbys are always very helpful on the phone.

There are a surprising number of TBs on NED as ''Foal with no name''
One sold at Carlisle sale on Saturday with stable name and passport number.

I see, so she doesnt even need a name on the passport?
Weatherbys were helpful to a point where I said seeing as she isnt going to be racing etc I dont want to pay 145 just to get her name on the passport, if I put it on the change of ownership form will it appear on the passport? To this they just said leave it blank lol at this point I gave up!

Lol. Unless you pay to name her with Weatherbys a name won't be put on her passport by them even if you use them to change ownership. If you want to affiliate her with anyone then she will need an official name on her passport (and SHBGB are the best for that) it also means you can show her in hand in their official classes without having to pay any extra as she'll already be registered with them if that makes sense.
I named a filly with SHBGB, her W passport was overstamped with her name and their stamp, also had her 'new' number on it but the front page (where the name details are on a W passport) were still left blank. I wrote 'named as ?? with SHBGB' myself on that front page so nobody could miss it.

Makes much more sense now! So I send the passport to SHBGB to get the name put on, do I also need to send back to weatherbys for change of ownership? Apologies for being a bit dim on this, things were much simpler with my other horses who already had names!

My girl is registered with Weatherbys and where it says name hers is blank. Just says she's a bay filly, DOB and her dam, sire and damsire (maybe sires sire but can't remember) Ive just left it blank, I know what her name is and seeing as she'll never race or have a racehorse bred from her then she doesn't need it. She is one of the "Foal not yet named" horses on NED.

Life was a lot more simple back then!

No, if you send it to be overstamped by SHBGB, that will count as a change of ownership too. You fill in the name you want and her breeding details, your details, the breeder's details (name will do if that's all you know); you won't need another vet sketch done they will accept her passport one.

Ring them, they're very helpful - and don't forget to check on the name you want else it just wastes more time if it's taken or is a prefix belonging to someone else.

BTW, she will still come up as foal unnamed on NED and you won't find her 'new' name on it either as it's not with her parent passport issuer but if you named her with W, then that would be shown.

This is why BH still has no name on his Weatherbys passport even though he has a non racing one( what with not being a TB and all) they still want to charge me £140 to put one on!

Mind you, Nitty has no name either as she is with AES and they never answer their phone!

Does having no name on his passport cause you any issues? I know that my RC area passport checking people kicked up a fuss because my other horse had one name on his passport and another on his vet certificate inside the passport (which I didnt even register lol)
